Reflection on Social Media Case 2: Ellen Degeneres and most Re-Tweeted Photo

To be honest I am not very surprised that Ellen DeGeneres has the most retweeted picture on twitter. Many say that the tweet went "viral" but when you’re a person as popular as Ellen at the Academy Awards with many other very famous people in the picture, to me, that is not considered going "viral." Everything famous people post gets a lot of attention because of the follow base that they already have. So, when you put that many famous people in one picture at such a prestigious event, it doesn't surprise me. Although, Ellen has the most retweeted picture she does not have the most retweeted tweet of all time. A guy named Carter Wilkerson has the most retweeted tweet of all time when he tweeted at Wendy’s and said, “Yo @wendys how many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets?” Wendy’s replied and said 18 million. This tweet to me went “viral” because of the person who tweeted it and how much exposure it received. A 16-year-old boy who only had 134 followers prior to the tweet and later that week had over 100,000 and got a blue check for a verified account. The tweet got 3.42 million retweets.

In the article posted by Deep Patal, https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/302286 it lists the 10 secrets to going viral. All of the material for someone who doesn’t already have a huge following base like celebrities. Celebrities can post anything whether it is cool or stupid and it will automatically get a bunch of attention. This are secrets for someone who wants something to receive attention who doesn’t necessarily have a big following base.

One of the first tweets that I remember going “viral” was the tweet about Alex from Target. In the article attached, posted by Katie Meyer it talks about him a year later and how he now has 3.9 million followers https://www.crowdbabble.com/blog/going-viral-alex-from-target-a-year-later-and-3900000-followers-richer/ That is what I like about social media is that it doesn’t matter who you are or how many followers you have, you have the ability to share your voice for everyone to see. Before social media if it didn’t make the news or was in the newspaper you would be able to find some of these things out. Social media is great for trying to get exposure through a post and hoping many will see it.

Social Media Change

Social Media really has taken the world by storm over the past few years and has really blown up. Social media is almost in my opinion the center point of the United States. It has changed the way we communicate in a huge way. Social media is the main form of communication with today’s generations.  It allows people to get into contact with others that they may not have been able to without social media. If you don’t have someone’s phone number you may have their snapchat or there Facebook and can reach out and communicate through there. I feel like it also forces people to talk to each other more because you see a post from that person on social media and you decide to leave a comment or reach out to them because you are curious and want to know more. Versus, before social media you couldn’t do that because it wasn’t even a possibility. Social media is also unique in ways you can keep up with your favorite celebrates and see when they tweet when they are releasing a new song or album. Or when you follow your favorite clothing store on Instagram and see their new merchandise coming out and when it comes out. There are many benefits to using social media but there are also down falls if you post something you didn’t mean to and it can really hurt you.

Although I do not agree with the way our president tweets what he tweets I do agree and like the way he uses twitter. It keeps everybody interested and he realized that social media is a huge part of today’s society so he uses it to his advantage, he adapted to the surroundings. As Amanda Wills and Alysha Love show in there article you can see every single tweet from the president, http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2017/politics/trump-tweets/ . Everyone follows Donald Trump and wants to see what he will say next versus before you had to read the newspaper or watch TV. Now you can just keep up with him through social media and it is very beneficial in my opinion.

Mandy Edwards states in her article how she thinks social media has changed the way we communicate, https://fowmedia.com/social-media-changed-communicate/ . She elaborates on how now people can know each other without even meeting them because of their social media profiles. When back in the day the only way you knew someone is you met them face to face. Another point she makes is it has created people to not have a filter when they talk through social media, grammar is bad, writing is abbreviated and summarized.

On the other side of the coin social media can be a bad thing in my view. You might be a very social person on social media but when it comes to real life talking and interacting with people you might be awkward because you only live through your phone.

Reflection on Social Media Case 1: McDStories

It astounds me at how quick the web can grab hold of something and transform it into something a lot more popular than it in a matter of days. You see this in various recordings that became famous online overnight along with photos, whether there funny, or getting made fun of. Organizations and people so far as that is concerned should be considerably more careful with regards to posting content via web-based networking media because just as much as you think it can help you it can hurt you.

I discovered this case unfathomably fascinating, it showed exactly how much power online networking has. McDonalds thought they had this splendid thought and on the off chance that it had gone the way they had proposed I'm certain it would have been awesome. What this case shows however is exactly how rapidly things can be winding wild when the web gets tightly to them. With respect to the #McDstories he communicated the lesson to be educated was to maintain a strategic distance from open finished suggestions to take action. While a few people may love an item the universe of online networking is brutal and unforgiving. As Jewel H. Ward states in her article, https://www.impactzone.co/25-instagram-hashtags-15-business-niches/ business’ should keep hashtags simple and popular to avoid problems like these. Because once something is posted on the internet you can never take it back. Organizations ought to never depend on the steadfastness of clients in a setting like this one. I'm certain a ton of the general population tweeting slanderous things with their #Mcdstories frequented the foundation regularly. Luckily the hashtag turned into a joke and everyone wanted in on the fun.

After McDonalds withdrew its announcement and separated all ties with the hashtag, it not the slightest bit takes out the negative impacts of where the web had taken the hashtag. Individuals didn't just quit sharing or utilizing it. Despite the fact that McDonalds had made it, they in no feeling of the word had responsibility for. As Jane Flanagan wrote in her article, http://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/2018/01/15/h-m-stores-destroyed-over-controversial-coolest-monkey-hoodie.html although this is not a tweet, it went viral on social media and H&M was labeled as racists because of a picture. Just goes to show that once something is on the internet, it can’t be taken back and it can hurt you bad.
