Online Reputation

When I first googled Emma Barnard the first page that popped up was LinkedIn, https://www.linkedin.com/in/emma-barnard/. Through this page I learned that Emma is getting a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and receiving a minor in yoga studies at Utah State. She also is currently working at KUBEX Fitness and has been working with them for now a year and 11 months. She is also a registered yoga teacher at the 200-hour level.

The second thing that popped up about Emma was her Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/emma.barnard.94. Although her profile is private and I cannot see all of the information about her it appears that she is originally from Logan, Utah. Through some of the pictures I can see it also appears that she has a boyfriend named Chad Artist, I am assuming this because of the pictures she has posted with him she tagged him in them.

The next page I founded linking to Emma was from Elevation Rock Gym, http://www.elevationrockgym.com/index.php/yoga/meet-the-teachers/52-meet-the-teachers. Through this page I can assume that Emma is very into yoga and takes it very seriously. She is a part of the staff through this gym. It also elaborates on how she once went on an intensive 3-week training in Kerala, India with another person and she stayed at an Ayurvedic Hospital. While being there she learned about the Ayurvedic lifestyle as well as continued her training in yoga. She stated that it was an amazing experience and can’t wait to go back in the near future. She elaborates on her yoga teaching style being primarily restorative mixed with different sun salutations and some vinyasa flow.  She says she trys to mix up her teaching sequences as much as possible. She really tries to focus on her breathing and finding the inner peace that comes with practicing yoga.

The next page I found that links to Emma is her twitter, https://twitter.com/emmmajoan. Through her twitter I found that she was born on July 28th and has been a member of twitter since July of 2011. I can assume that she has a dog because I found pictures she has tweeted of him, his name is Winston. I also found a picture of her playing soccer that looked to be like high school.

Overall, from looking up Emma through the internet I have learned a lot. Growing up in Logan, Utah and staying here in Logan to go to college I assume she is close with her family. I found out she is majoring in communication studies and minoring in yoga. From her twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and a work page, I can see that she really has a passion for yoga and is always involved with it. I also saw that she played soccer in high school so she is a very active person and enjoys physical activates. I also saw she has a dog that she adores a lot named Winston and she posts him on her social media. Lastly I gathered that she has a boyfriend named Chad Artist and it appeared that they enjoy doing a lot of the same activates. Below are some photos I found of Emma.

Reflection on Social Media Case 6: Basketball Cop

I really liked this case because it involved a former athlete and him giving back to the community and athletes being some of the most popular people in the world, when they do something it has a big impact. This story is very interesting because you always hear about cops and all of the negative stuff that they do, you rarely hear anything positive these days about them. With all of the negative stereotypes towards them it is always good to hear the good things they do because they do not get enough respect. This story takes place in Gainesville, Florida where the crime rate is higher than most other places. This leads the youth to only follow their elders and do what they are doing, making them as well have a negative outlook on the police. With this story, it mentioned that when the first officer arrived on scene, the kids ran away, most likely because they were scared they could get into trouble even though they weren’t doing anything wrong. There were a few that stayed and in this situation, it worked out for them because Shaquille O’Neal came ready to play basketball with some of the kids in the area. This is what started the hashtag #hoopsnotcrime. In the article attached by ESPN it talks about the benefits of this of this and what it is doing for young kids, http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/page/PhotoEssay-hoopsnotcrime160411/how-hoopsnotcrime-spreading-powerful-message-basketball. When something like this gets started and involves a big time athlete like Shaq it really spreads and makes others like it for that solo reason. This was good because with Shaq doing this it raised the awareness of these situations and made people pay attention. This campaign was great for everyone and it raised an abundant amount of money for the community that went back to the struggling families. It also helps the cops image when they are playing basketball with the youth and it helps change their negative image to them. In the article attached by ABC it shows police officers doing positive things in the community, https://www.abc2news.com/news/local-news/police-departments-combat-negative-image-with-posts-on-social-media. We as people need to come together and realize that police officers are there for us we should not have hatred towards them and feel like we are against them. I like hearing the stories about police officers going back into the community and doing this because it shows they are people too.

Reflection on Social Media Case 5: Paypal Deleted Comments

The PayPal story is very interesting to me and something that I have never heard of. PayPal posted on their Facebook page about being featured on Forbes and started to receive a lot of negative comments. PayPal then began to delete all of the negative comments which to me is very unusual. Usually companies who do something like this leave the negative comments because it is used as constructive criticism to know what they need to improve on and get better at. The deleting of the comments then began to upset the people because they felt like they could no longer voice their opinion and that it had been taken away. This only fueled the fire for the people as they only began to comment negative things about PayPal. This instance only hurt them because it made others not trust them anymore and it seemed very skeptical. I really didn’t understand all the madness behind the deleted comments because no matter what you do you can’t ever make everyone happy. Therefore, I feel they should have left the negative comments so that they could improve and fix what the people were complaining about. In the link attached it states reasons as to why customer reviews are good for business https://www.business.qld.gov.au/running-business/consumer-laws/customer-service/managing-customer-reviews/benefits. In my opinion, the only time I feel that it is acceptable to delete comments on your reviews is if there are completely off topic and have nothing to do with the business or if there are vulgar words. In the article attached by Lisa Barone she states 5 reasons why NOT to delete negative comments, https://outspokenmedia.com/reputation-management/5-reasons-not-to-delete-negative-reviews/. This incident with PayPal did take place in 2011 so I think that they have learned from their mistakes because they are very successful today. I understand at the time they were thinking if they only had positive comments in their review it would make them look better. At the end of the day every business has to do what the customers want them to, to keep them happy otherwise they won’t have any business.
