New Technology Assignment

When thinking of new technologies, I thought of technology as, “Machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge.” The new technology that I found was Genetic Fortune-Telling. By that it means that we will be able to see everything about your new born baby before it is born. It is basically a report card of a baby at birth. It will be able to include things like if the baby will have chances of suffering a heart attack, cancer, if they get addicted to alcohol, drugs, tobacco and their intelligence. Scientists and doctors have been looking at this for some time now and using the data they have collected from a lot of ongoing genetic studies, they are calling these “polygenic risk scores.” As of now these tests only offer possibilities not diagnosis. Where it is really going to benefit is medicine. What they key factor that they have to work on is figuring out what causes these diseases. Once they figure out what causes the diseases we will then be able to move along further. They are working on it though the best and as fast as they can so that we can help humans overall and fix problems before they are even a problem. I think that this will relate to social media in a huge was because of many reasons. First of all, technology changes the ways that people do business. This can especially relate to social media in the way of telecommunication systems. Such as, Instant messages or direct messages via social media to get ahold of someone that you want to get in contact with. With this you are able to see pictures, text or video direct from the company or doctors instead of going in and seeing it in person. It saves everyone time at the end of the day. Technology revolutionizes what we do no matter what it is. Social media and technology are comparable because we can benefit from both. If this genetic fortune telling deal happens everyone will want in on it because everyone wants to live a long and healthy life. Doctors will be over whelmed with work and there is no better way to network with people other than through social media. Getting in contact is the first part of making this happen. Social media can elaborate on a doctor or scientists experience in this field because I’m sure it will cost a lot of money so you definitely don’t want to pay for something that is wrong. I feel like this is a very cool thing and not only will it affect social media but it will also change humans as a whole.

Reflection on Social Media Case 12: United Breaks Guitars

Usually when talking about airlines you don’t hear many good things because it is hard to keep everyone happy but when it comes to United, they are usually always right in the middle of that conversation. I have never heard of this situation before with the guitar but I do remember hearing about the incident with the airlines forcing off the passenger and that was a big deal at the time. I do feel like the mantra of, “any press is good press” is right even with this situation because even though they have a bad reputation from something like this it causes the airline to drop their ticket prices or no one will fly with them. Once they drop the ticket prices people don’t care about what they did they are just interested in how they can get from point A to point B as cheap as possible. This causing an upsell in tickets I would feel like. I feel like United was a little late to come in after their stock value had already gone down and all they offered Dave was a guitar? Seems a little cheap to me. The article attached, https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/apr/11/airlines-bad-customer-service-united-new-low, talks about how airlines are already bad and everyone knows that but United just set an all-time low with their latest incident while dragging a customer off the plane. There is also a video on the website. In the next article I have attached, https://thepointsguy.com/guide/best-and-worst-airlines-2017/, it rates the worst and best 10 airlines from 2017. Surprisingly United comes in at number 2. I usually fly southwest and have no complaints with them at all and they came in pretty low at number 6. It goes into detail with a point system on how they came up with this and it is hard to disagree with some of their points. In the end, I am one of those people that I don’t care what happened with the airline because everyone makes mistakes and I just want to get to where I am going as cheap as possible.

Reflection on Social Media Case 11: OK Go Gravity Song

I thought that this was a very interesting case, I did not understand why Ok Go did not want to post or release their video to YouTube but they wanted to through Facebook. If I was them and wanting to get exposure I would have wanted to release it to both so that I could get it out there as much as possible. They felt though that they had a better chance through Facebook to have their video spread faster. The mistake was though that the airline S7 released the video to YouTube without the bands permission. I felt that it was uncalled for that the airline did it, although they did it for themselves to promote their airline it was very selfish. Ok Go was in the right when asking them to take down the video because they broke the contract when releasing the video without permission and it was cool that YouTube cooperated and took down the video. Personally, I feel that Facebook is beginning to take over YouTube because it is more convenient than YouTube. When I watch music videos or funny videos I go on Facebook and look because I know they will be there. I hardly ever go on YouTube anymore and search for videos. In the article attached, https://moz.com/blog/facebook-vs-youtube, it talks about the competition between the two. It compares a bunch of stats between the two trying to figure out if Facebook is up and coming because YouTube used to be the go to when looking up videos. The next article I have attached, http://www.thefader.com/2017/05/15/leak-week-snippet-social-media-twitter, talks about the 11 greatest leaked songs on social media. Leaked songs mean they were posted or got out through a third party before they were supposed to and now because of social media this is a very common occurrence these days. Once this happens it is hard to do anything about it. In the old days this wasn’t ever a problem because they didn’t have a platform to leak it to but now with social media they do and it is something we are starting to see a lot more commonly.
